Review – Figma Phantasmoon

Post 27 of 69

I love this freaking Figma. Read on past the jump for the review:

Seriously, that picture alone should have you convinced of this Figma’s awesomeness!

Phantasmoon is a joke magical girl character based on Tsukihime’s Arcueid Brunestud. She’s probably familiar to most readers through her appearances in each episode of Carnival Phantasm, as the star of her own show, which exists within Carnival Phantasm’s universe. We see quite a few confusing episode previews and even some in-universe merchandise, but never the show proper.

Phantasmoon’s box is typical Figma fare.

Unlike the last Figma I reviewed, Irisviel, Phantasmoon comes with plenty of stuff. All three of her faces are awesome, and she’s got about as many hands as I’ve ever seen a Figma come with, including one attached to the plate of curry. She also comes with her wand, a clear “magic effect” attachment for the want, and a pair of cartoony bats, also printed on clear plastic and with stands to hold them up.

I just love the faces this Figma comes with, and she’s awesome to pose. Speaking of poseability, one really cool feature is that she’s got a rotation joint where her thighhighs meet her thighs.

This is what Figmas should really be all about, in my opinion. Fun accessories, silly faces, and the ability to put them in hilarious positions. If only they’d included the nekomimi that the character sometimes is shown with, this would be the best Figma ever!

Phantasmoon is one of the few characters that work better as a Figma than as an expensive 1/7-scale PVC figure. Whimsical antics define this character, so the faces and accessories are appropriate. I’m really looking forward to replicating that curry-throwing pose when my Phantasmoon arrives in a couple of weeks!

As a side note, it’s surprising to me that out of all the Arcueid figures that have been made, only this one and the 2007 Alter version have faces consistent with the source material, IMO.
